POSITION SUMMARY: Perform patient care and cardiac monitoring duties, in accordance with the philosophy, goals and objectives of GCMC. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential core function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, experience, and ability necessary to perform this job. ESSENTIAL CORE FUNCTIONS: 1. Continually and accurately assesses patient's cardiac rhythm and reports changes to the Nurse.

  1. Promptly and correctly initiates telemetry.

  2. Accurately documents rhythm strips on admission and discharge, every 4 hours, and with any change in rhythm.

  3. Effectively customizes alarm system for each patient if applicable.

  4. Demonstrates preparation of the telemetry transmitter and cable.

  5. Demonstrates ability to change recorder paper.

  6. Anticipates, orders and stores telemetry supplies.

  7. Cleans equipment per policy using universal precautions.

  8. Routinely triages patients on telemetry every 24, 48 & 72 hours.

    1. Report any malfunctioning equipment through the chain of command and enter work orders.

    2. Assists with patient/family/significant other’s learning needs, abilities and readiness to learn. Identifies barriers to learning, such as language or culture. Integrates this information into the patient’s plan of care.

    3. Identifies and documents patient/family/SO’s education needs in collaboration with other disciplines and implements an on-going education relevant to these needs.

    4. Explains the purpose of telemetry monitoring and equipment to patient and family throughout the course of treatment.

    5. Documents patient teaching on appropriate teaching tool for each teaching episode.

    6. Provides teaching material as needed (pamphlets, video tapes, etc.) to enhance patient teaching.

    7. Collaborates with other health care providers in developing a teaching plan for patient.

    8. Ensures patient/family/SO understand discharge instructions.

    9. Regular, Punctual and dependable attendance.

    10. Other duties as assigned.

    • Must complete 50% of validation profile within the first year and 100% within two years required

    • Must complete basic arrhythmia class and /or pass arrhythmia test with>80% within 3 months of hire required

    • 6 months prior hospital clinical or patient care experience or one semester of nursing school or experience as a CNA, EMT, or equivalent experience.


    • Demonstrated skills in organization, verbal and written communications, customer service, math, analysis, reading, following instruction, basic computer usage. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

    • Language Skills - Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to patients, visitors, physicians and other employees of the organization.

    • Mathematical Skills – Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ration and percentages.

    • Reasoning Ability – Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

    • Read and writes Basic English

    • Knowledge of body substance isolation

    • Ability to use a computer, typewriter and calculator

    • Ability to move in excess of 50 pounds, with assistance from other staff (medium work)
